A Geotechnical Interpretative Report (GIR) is a critical document in engineering and construction projects. The report provides the vital link between the site investigation and factual laboratory data, with its primary purpose is to analyse and interpret the geotechnical data and summarise the key engineering parameters to guide safe, efficient, and cost-effective design and construction.
The complex variability of soil means GIR reports need to be created with the unique specifications for focused projects by qualified and experienced personnel.
A GIR typically covers several key stages of work. First, an engineering-focused ground model is developed by defining soil units and stratigraphy using available soil data, supplemented by geophysical data integration. Once the ground model and soil units are established, unit-specific engineering parameters are analysed, with location-specific profiles derived for foundation design. A reliability framework categorizes these parameters into lower/upper bounds and best estimates to ensure robust decision-making.
The Geotechnical Interpretive Report may include:
- Objectives and Agreed Scope
- Location and Site History (Phase 1 Desk Study)
- Site and Regional Geology Description
- Geophysical and Geotechnical Investigation Locations, Methods and Results
- Site Geology Interpretation and Geotechnical Model Development
- Geotechnical Properties Summary Relevant to the Project
- Ground Conditions Implications Interpretation for the Project
- Potential Project Risks Assessment
- Summary and Recommendations
The EPI Group Service
EPI can conduct both QA/QC of the Geotechnical survey and provide the GIR
Resulting in both contracting efficiencies, and the optimum transfer of knowledge gained from one to the other.
EPI offer in-house experienced Geotechnical Engineers
Our Engineers have project-managed and conducted Geotechnical Interpretive studies across the globe. They will oversee the projects and provide invaluable support and deep technical knowledge to both our clients and our representatives in the field.
EPI will carefully chose a specialist expert Consultant for your GIR.
This allows us to leverage the correct skills and experience for each specific and unique project
At EPI we support projects beyond reporting, through the lifecycle of delivery.
We can leverage our experience gained during the project related QA/QC surveys before providing comprehensive, accurate GIR reports in an accelerated timeframe. We can then offer efficient, knowledgeable and streamlined contracting for the further stages of project delivery.
